Sound of Kirchzarten
Black Forest Voices invites all residents and guests of Kirchzarten to listen to or even participate in the Sound of Kirchzarten. This sound is created by the festival choir, small and big concerts, interactive singing events, the Soundgarden, relaxed gatherings on the "Festivalwiese" with delicious food and drinks, musical activities at the Liedertafel, the Listening Island, and creative crafting with music. There are many offerings and activities, to which everyone is invited free of charge!

Open Singing
At the second hotspot of the festival, the Schalampi, you are all invited to sing with Accent and PUST, whether amateur or professional. Come along, meet great people and make the space between the festival office, Medi@thak and Bürgerscheune resound.
Fr., 14. June 2024 | 4:15-5:00 PM | Schalampi-Bühne | Tag Along - The Barbershop-Jam | Language: English | with: Accent
Barbershoppers love to spontaneously sing "tags" (= "appendages") together! These are usually dramatic, sometimes extravagant variations at the end of a song, but they also work on their own – and the singers from Accent show us how it's done! Anyone can join in, as no musical knowledge or previous experience is required, just an open mind, curiosity and the desire to sing together!
Sa., 15. June 2024 | 2:15-3:00 PM | Schalampi-Bühne | Songs From the North | Language: English | mit: PUST
We discover the enchanting fusion of traditional Norwegian singing and modern grooves with PUST. Together we sing and combine old melodies with modern grooves and flow. PUST lets us unleash our creativity – and immerse ourselves in the magic of Norwegian music.
Accent
The six self-described "jazz vocal nerds" from Canada, France, Sweden, England and the USA met on the internet, joined forces in 2011 and worked on songs and videos together online across long distances - and became YouTube stars as a result. Since then, they have released five albums, performed at the London A Cappella Festival, played dates across Europe, North America and Asia and performed two sold-out Christmas shows at London's Royal Albert Hall.
PUST
PUST from Oslo beholds six of the most beautiful Nordic voices in a magical, powerful and playful unity. Their compositions reverberate attentively between Scandinavian folk, jazzy tones, and all sorts of worldly and natural sounds. At times fragile, at others expressive, PUST is a listening experience – _and nothing short of an aural exploration of the soul and the landscape of the European north. Both tradition and innovation are parts of the musical expression. Most of their compositions and all arrangements are made by members of the group.
Guest at the senior center
Th., 13.06.2024 | 4:30 - 5:15 PM | Seniorenzentrum Foyer | free
Black Forest Voices cordially invites the residents, their visitors and relatives as well as the staff of the Caritas Senior Center to listen and sing along! Lyrics sheets will be distributed!
Nebensache
Nebensache – six singers who transport their audience to faraway lands with their voices, give them goosebumps and inspire them with powerful, mouthwatering beats. They sing about the main things in life: love, friendship, pain and happiness, packaged in different genres. For them, music is the second most beautiful thing in the world.
Choir Stage
Fr, 14.06.2024 | 6 - 7 PM | Aula, Grundschule | free
Here, very special BFV friends present themselves, namely entire ensembles that travel to the festival – and now show what else they can do!
Jazzaffair
They are 24 women, 24 voices: With jazz standards like "Puttin' on the Ritz," a cappella songs with and without body percussion, and pop from Adele to Fiona Apple, Jazzaffair brings female power to the stage! They hold five to seven concerts annually – with a band or a cappella.
PolyPHonics
They are a student a cappella ensemble founded by Mathias Schillmöller in 2018 at the Heidelberg University of Education. Currently, it consists of 35 active singers. This year, they present their chart show featuring the best hits from Elvis Presley to Nina Chuba.
Senior Jazzchor
It is part of the "family" of Jazzchor Freiburg e.V. Their repertoire includes jazz and swing standards, as well as elements from pop, rock, and funk – many arranged by the choir director Julian Knörzer. At concerts, international workshops, and various choir competitions, you can see and hear: Rhythm, a spirit of experimentation, and enjoyment of sound, paired with experience – this is the recipe for success for the Seniors.
Kirchzarten sings!
Sa, 15.06.2024 | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm | Schalampi-Bühne | free
We look forward to even more participation from choirs and ensembles from Kirchzarten, the Dreisamtal, and the Black Forest this year! They are versatile, excellent, dedicated, have fun – and showcase themselves to our international audience on our Schalampi stage.
different voices
They ensure engaging and diverse entertainment with voice, heart, humor, and originality. Pop songs in a cappella style, moments of reflection and poetry, evergreens and catchy tunes from days gone by with new Alemannic lyrics, interspersed with anecdotes for relaxation ... and during the ballads, the audience is encouraged to close their eyes, savoring the beautiful melodies with all their senses.
Jugendchor Rainbow
It is the slightly older part of the Kinder- und Jugendchor Rainbow (see below) and many of the teenagers have been singing together since their childhood – and even today, they are wholeheartedly (and, of course, with their voices!) engaged.
Die Zartener Chöre
They are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. They consist of three choirs: the male voice choir, the mixed choir and the gospel choir "Zarduna Sing and Swing", which always work closely together and support each other in their performances and concerts. Their annual calendar includes a number of concerts, including the "Maisingen" and the "Stallweihnacht" around the Scheunenlädele in Zarten, "Kirchzarten sings!" at the BFV festival and the "Weihnachtserlebnis" in the Talvogtei.
MGV „Schwarzwald" Oberried
It has existed as an all-male choir since 1907 and is an institution in the cultural life of the community. With around 40 active singers, it stands for togetherness and musically sophisticated male singing. In 2022, it was recognized as a "performance choir" by the Baden Choir Association. Choir projects are both a change and an incentive. With the "Ohrwürmer" ensemble, a dozen men from the choir also dedicate themselves to a cappella singing in its modern form. Dr. Michael Weh has been the conductor for over 20 years.
PepChor
Around 40 women and men regularly gather for choir rehearsals under the direction of Tobias Jäck. The PepChor was founded in January 2010. The repertoire includes songs by Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Joe Cocker, ABBA, Leonard Cohen, the Comedian Harmonists, Mikis Theodorakis, and some classical pieces.
Viersam
The vocal quartet with Carola Steiert, Stefanie Janz, Claudius Heitz, and Wolfgang Schmid has been in existence for four years. The group regularly meets for rehearsals and has rehearsed a diverse repertoire of songs ranging from pop and folk to classical. Many of the arrangements are by Wolfgang Schmid. What drives them is the joy of singing together.
Alemannic choir concert: “Chattered like sung“
Sa., 15. Juni | 6-6:45 PM | Schalampi-Bühne
Todays's concert – as part of our series 'Kirchzarten Sings!' – showcases choirs and ensembles from Kirchzarten, the Dreisamtal, and the Black Forest, performing Alemannic music and/or using Alemannic texts from the new cross-border Alemannic choir book 'Gschwetzt wie gsunge' (Alemannic dialect for “Chattered like sung“) by Timea Djerdj and Uli Führe. A truly special and unique event for our international audience!
Conducting: Timea Djerdj
Chorgemeinschaft Titisee-Jostal-Hinterzarten
The singers are predominantly Alemannic native speakers. In addition to regular performances at the Kurhaus in Hinterzarten, they also organize the Jostäler Open-Air Plays every four years at the Öhlermühle from 1772 in Jostal. Several singers have been singing in the choir for 50, 60, or even 70 years.
Jazzchor Vocalise
Under the direction of Stefan Rheidt, the choir has a special relationship with the Alemannic dialect: For many years, the ensemble has collaborated with the dialect poet Stefan Pflaum. Through numerous joint performances, a program has evolved featuring choir arrangements of Pflaum's texts and songs, as well as choral pieces translated into Alemannic dialect.
Die Zartener Chöre
They are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. They consist of three choirs: the male voice choir, the mixed choir and the gospel choir "Zarduna Sing and Swing", which always work closely together and support each other in their performances and concerts. Their annual calendar includes a number of concerts, including the "Maisingen" and the "Stallweihnacht" around the Scheunenlädele in Zarten, "Kirchzarten sings!" at the BFV festival and the "Weihnachtserlebnis"
in the Talvogtei.
XÄNG!
The name is onomatopoeic Alemannic for "chants", is a small choir from the northern Kaiserstuhl region that sings whatever suits the singers. They enjoy singing soul, rock, and swing with Alemannic lyrics. The majority of XÄNG! comes from the Amoltern village choir "Eintracht", naturally connecting them to the realities of southern Baden. The conductor also sings with them: Rita Jerke.

A surprising concert from St. Peter, Black Forest: Traditional sea shanties mixed with contemporary folk songs!
Shanty Peter and the Bathingpondsailorstradeunionband
As unusual as this combination may sound at first, it is successful. Just one year after its formation, the five-piece ship's crew has become a real tip in the region. The folk-rock cover band from St. Peter in the Black Forest plays traditional sea shanties and contemporary folk songs from various traditions – both polyphonic a cappella and instrumental with guitar, double bass, accordion and cajón.
